easter egg decoupage

Hi, friends!

I wanted to share this fun little Easter craft with you today, since we are less than a week away from Easter Sunday! This is an easy DIY that requires very little prep and inexpensive materials, so go ahead and experiment! I know it took us a little practice to get it right :).

What you’ll need:

Paintable/craft Easter eggs (we found ours a Target)

Themed paper napkins

Elmers glue

Foam paint brush

Start by diluting your glue slightly with water (just a tiny bit—don’t go overboard on this part.) Then, cut your napkins into small pieces. If you’re using a small printed pattern, it works well to cut the napkin into little squares. If you’re using specific pieces (like the bunnies on ours), then cut around the part you want to use without leaving too much border space. Keep in mind that the bigger the piece is that you’re gluing, the more likely it is to wrinkle as it conforms to the egg. A bit of wrinkling is expected and is just the nature of decoupage (yay texture!), but there is definitely such a thing as “too big” when cutting the pieces for this one.

When your napkin bits and glue is ready, use the foam brush to paint a thin layer of glue onto the egg. Then, place your napkin piece over the glue. Once you have the piece where you want it. paint over it again with the glue to stick it down, paying close attention the the edges. Do this for each piece, overlapping the napkin bits if you’d like but making sure to coat over each piece before starting on the next one.

You may have to complete these in stages to allow for dry time. We ended up doing to top half of each egg and then letting them dry before doing the bottom half so that they wouldn’t stick to the carton while they dried. We allowed about an hour between sections, and then left them overnight to dry completely. By morning, they were ready!

That’s all for today, friends! Did you try this project at home? If so, I’d love to hear how it went—feel free to share in the comments below or find me on Instagram @catsivula!

Hoppy Easter to you and yours!
